Teriyaki Chicken Bowl

Now we have all our bases covered. 

Looking at all the facts, and my very weak will to resist the goodness, I headed into the kitchen yet again. It is after all Kitchen trysts with Ki. 

Authentically, there is no such thing as ready Teriyaki sauces sold in Japan. 'Teriyaki' is actually a cooking method derived from the word Teri- which means shiny and Yaki- which means grilled. In the absence of a grill, I made this on a skillet and well, long story short, this glossy chicken will satiate your taste buds and its a good tick on your health chart too. 



This experience of mine, was simple, lets just put on our aprons and chef's hats and get cooking!

You'll need

4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
1" piece of ginger, minced
1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
1 tbsp honey
oil to drizzle
scallions and sesame seeds to garnish
salt and pepper
pinch of love
Left over rice
Sauteed vegetables

Method

Prepping your chicken is very important. Wash your chicken thoroughly and pat dry with paper towels. Season one side of chicken with pepper. Skip the salt for now



In a skillet, add your oil. I added a tsp of sesame seed oil for a more intense nutty flavour. Heat this on medium heat till the oil begins to shimmer



Taking my chicken pieces, I placed them seasoned side down. The chicken should immediately sizzle when it hits the pan. Use tongs to do this so that the oil doesn't splutter directly on you



While the chicken is cooking on one side, season the other side with a little bit of pepper



Meanwhile, take a one inch piece of ginger and dice it finely. 



Let the chicken cook on one side till its slightly golden brown. This takes about 3 minutes. 



When you turn the chicken thigh, add in the minced ginger. You can also grate in the ginger if you like. 



Increase the heat to medium high, and add in the teriyaki sauce. Teriyaki sauce is a blend of soy sauce, honey and mirin. Having a bottle on hand just makes my life easier. See how the sauce bubbles and sizzles. This is what we want. 



After a minute, the sauce will thicken up and become a glaze like this. How shiny the chicken looks! Yumm!! Add in a drizzle of honey if you like. It just adds an oomph to the dish.Taste the sauce and if required, add salt and adjust the seasoning. 



Prepare your sauteed vegetables with peanut oil, some garlic and ginger. 



Cut the chicken thighs in strips, drizzle some sauce over it. Garnish with sesame seeds and scallion greens. 



Plate it with jasmine rice or brown rice or plain rice for that matter. Spoon the sauteed vegetables and your Teriyaki chicken is ready to be served! 



The chicken so moist and tender and flavourful!! Indulge!
